- lightweight EVA foam midsole, molded foam outsole, and rubber outsole
Adidas’ Cloudfoam Ilation model has full-grain leather at a price you cannot beat. You do not often see budget b-ball shoes at a reasonable price and full-grain leather, so this pair is something special indeed.
It has perforated features for maximized air circulation as well. It has a substantially thick rubber sole, which will help up each time you move regardless of the location, whether you’re playing indoors or out of doors.
The shoe has a well-built structure and it is actually one of the most durable pairs we have tested here, due to the leather upper. Because it is made of leather, it can sure endure thrashing and frequent movement. The shoes’ rear quarters, tongue and collar are composed of Air mesh for improved ventilation.
The shoes were given the Cloudfoam padding/cushioning technology and this enhances the overall feel of the pair, unlike other budget brands which makes use of EVA cushioning.
This kind of cushioning alone makes it worth the price. The traction, on the other hand, is pretty standard. It has a zigzag pattern all over on rubber outsole, with the exception of the middle-forefoot area, which has a wavy pattern.
Worn and tested, the pair performed decently in both outdoor and indoor locations even with such basic traction. Wearers do not have to worry about usual traction issues like slipping on the surface.
The model also includes a high, supple foam collar that offers wearers enough support and stability on the ankles. But if you are in need of a basketball shoe with lots of support, this might not be the one you require. The shoes also fit true to size, unlike other models from the brand. It has a good lockdown and its sockliner, which is Cloudfoam, helps secure things and lock the user’s foot right into the footwear.
Furthermore, the kicks are available in a gamut of colors so you can choose a pair (or two) that will easily complement your wardrobe.
It is great that the pair has a full-grain leather upper, because leather shoes are often very durable. However, because of leather’s known attributes, the upper is rigid and this does not make for better flex, unlike woven materials like Flyknit. If you are fond of making abrupt movements, this pair might not work for you.
Furthermore, if you are looking for a pair that will provide first-rate support, traction and cushion, you may have to find a more expensive model if you want all three. The Cloudfoam Ilation is decent at best; while it is still a must-buy for budget consumers, if you are a pro you may have to invest in other models.
The Adidas Cloudfoam Ilation is one of the better models in the budget basketball shoe range. Despite a few setbacks, it is still a great buy.
You can get used to the leather upper though, like us, all it takes is to shoot some hoops with the shoe on, to break these bad boys in. All in all, we do recommend this for casual b-ball games, indoors and outdoors.
